UOR especially needs teachers in the following areas:

  • clothing construction

Volunteer in the Studio

UOR is looking for people who love sewing and quilting who would like to help out in the classroom to support the teachers. Helping a teacher in the classroom is an ideal way to learn about the program and the students. UOR also has opportunities for volunteers to support the program outside of the classroom.
Here are a few of the ways to help in the classroom:

  • work one-on-one with a beginning student
  • assist with preparation such as fabric selection and cutting
  • help students problem solve a machine problem (often just rethreading)
  • helping the teacher answer questions about the project

Here are a few other ways you can help:

  • Process new donations: unpack, sort and fold fabric for storage
  • Prepare project kits for beginner students (select and cut fabric)
  • Research new projects for intermediate and advanced classes
  • Make demonstration pieces for new patterns
  • Help clean and maintain the sewing machines
